The Babylonians drew a raven in these same stars, so this small figure has carried the same bird for close to three thousand years. In the Greek version the crow was sent to fetch water, came back late with an invented excuse, and was thrown into the sky for it, next to Crater, the cup it should have filled, and Hydra, the water snake it blamed. Both of those are real constellations, sitting either side of it.
